The professor of genetics will lead Pasqual Maragall Foundation's brain research center
The Board of BarcelonaBeta Brain Research Center (BBRC) has named Dr. Arcadi Navarro i Cuartiellas as the new director. Navarro, a Board member for both BBRC and the Pasqual Maragall Foundation, is a professor of genetics and lecturer and researcher at ICREA in its Department of Experimental and Health Sciences at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra. In January 2016 he was appointed Secretary of Universities and Research of the Department of Knowledge and Business of the Government of Catalonia, a position he held until July 2018.
BBRC, the research center of the Pasqual Maragall Foundation, was founded six years ago, a period in which it has strived for research on prevention of the Alzheimer Disease. In such short time, the center has become a global scientific model, recognized and respected everywhere, thus showing its great capacity to attract talent and drive to get competitive international resources. Also, the BBRC is a fundamental part –and leader- in many scientific networks devoted to the huge mission of offering solutions to diseases like Alzheimer.
BBRC is now in its best moment so far. A moment full of success that wouldn’t be possible without its almost 50 professionals, 3000 research participants that take part in their studies and the continuous support of institutions like “La Caixa”. This attractive gives it the possibility to multiply its capacity and scientific excellence through new institutional alliances. A new stage that will have Dr. Arcadi Navarro on its front.
