The Pasqual Maragall Foundation has surpassed the figure of 50,000 members. A milestone in our history, since we launched our social base in 2014, it has not stopped growing exponentially until becoming an essential part of the organization.
Given that the Foundation does not receive structural subsidies from the public sector, the regular contributions of these more than 50,000 members are what make the different projects we have underway possible. On the one hand, Alzheimer's research studies, focusing especially on early detection; on the other hand, the support programs for families who live directly with the disease and also for all the scientific dissemination and awareness activities promoted by the Foundation.
In this sense Cristina Maragall, president of the Pasqual Maragall Foundation, assures that "We will never tire of thanking the support of all the people who accompany us day after day. Without their support and energy, the Foundation would not be possible. Thanks to them, we can continue developing pioneering research studies with the aim of finally defeating a disease that affects us all closely."
The contributions of the volume of partners have made it possible for the Pasqual Maragall Foundation to be today a reference entity in the field of Alzheimer's, especially focused on its prevention, work that is carried out by its research center, the Barcelonaβeta Brain Research Center (BBRC).
Over the course of almost 14 years, great advances have been made in research and knowledge, such as the fact that one in three cases of Alzheimer's could be avoided by adopting healthy lifestyle habits, the identification of new key biomarkers for early diagnosis of the disease, or the relationship between factors such as pollution or insomnia with Alzheimer's.
For families who live closely with Alzheimer's, the Foundation's Social Department has confirmed the effectiveness of its therapeutic groups; group sessions aimed at caregivers of people with Alzheimer's, which help these people to break their social isolation, face daily treatments with more tools and resources, and substantially improve their physical and emotional well-being.
