The Pasqual Maragall Foundation and the Rosa Maria Vivar Foundation have signed a collaboration agreement with the aim of promoting awareness projects to change the social perception of Alzheimer's disease, promote healthy aging and share the importance of biomedical research, among others. Both institutions will cooperate jointly to disseminate, collaborate and support different actions to promote the prevention and care of Alzheimer's, as well as neurodegenerative diseases.
As explained Cristina Maragall, president of the Pasqual Maragall Foundation, "We are pleased to begin this collaboration with a Foundation with which we share the goal of finding solutions for people with Alzheimer's and which will allow us to get closer to the people of Camp de Tarragona." He also adds, “At the Pasqual Maragall Foundation we work to change the way Alzheimer's is viewed, but also to achieve advances in research that will allow us to find an effective solution through research into Alzheimer's prevention.”
For its part, Margarita Oliva, president of the Rosa Maria Vivar Foundation, has stated that "These agreements are very necessary to be able to go further. We are sure that with the help of the Pasqual Maragall Foundation we will be able to achieve our joint objectives by working to raise awareness of the disease in order to be able to follow healthy habits throughout life and promote the need to achieve healthy ageing and prevent neurodegenerative diseases."
First joint activity
As a first initiative, the next October 20th at 7pm, in it Fortuny Theatre in Reus, the conference will take place 'A healthy brain for life. How to prevent Alzheimer's from childhood'. At this meeting, the Dr. Nina Gramunt, technical director of the Social and Outreach Area of the Pasqual Maragall Foundation, will talk about primary prevention by following healthy lifestyle habits, as well as secondary prevention, acting when the brain already shows the first symptoms of cognitive decline.
For its part, the Dr. Margalida Coll, Professor of Psychobiology at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, will delve into the different types of memory, how they develop and change throughout life, and how action can be taken to preserve memory and brain health.
The activity is free and registration is open to all citizens through the online grant system.
