The Pasqual Maragall Foundation and the ”la Caixa” Foundation They promote the Third edition of the online course “Conducting therapeutic groups and advising family caregivers of people with Alzheimer’s disease”, which has been adapted to the context of the pandemic. It is a university extension course (3 ECTS) that is completely free and accredited by the Institute for Continuing Education (IL3) of the University of Barcelona (UB). It is aimed at all professionals with a university degree, mainly in Psychology, but also in other disciplines related to the care of family caregivers of people with Alzheimer's.
Registrations are Open from Monday, February 22 until next Friday, February 26 and can be done through this linkThe course will take place between 1 March and 30 April and includes up to 79 hours of self-training, a mentoring session, a virtual conference led by an expert in caring for people with Alzheimer's and a final virtual session with a teaching professional to address practical issues related to the training.
The course responds to the need to train professional psychologists in the field of group psychotherapeutic intervention to support and improve the quality of life of people who care for a family member with Alzheimer's, as well as to provide professionals from other disciplines with specific knowledge and resources to improve the care and guidance of this group.
And according to data from the Pasqual Maragall Foundation, since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the average daily dedication by the main caregiver is 18 hours, four more than before the pandemic. This almost exclusive dedication has physical and psychological repercussions on the caregiver that are still little recognized.
By obtaining this accreditation, students with a degree in Psychology will be able to direct Therapeutic groups for family caregivers of people with Alzheimer's, a program that the Pasqual Maragall Foundation has been carrying out for 8 years throughout the State. It is a scientifically validated cognitive-behavioral group psychotherapeutic intervention that has demonstrated, among other things, that Improves the physical and emotional well-being of caregivers, as well as their quality of life. Professionals from other disciplines will be equipped with specific and highly rigorous knowledge to improve their ability to guide this group of caregivers.
Format and contents
The course, which is conducted 100 % online, requires up to 79 hours of independent training and a virtual tutoring session with the teacher to resolve doubts and delve deeper into different aspects and concepts. In addition, students will be able to attend a virtual conference led by an expert in the care of people with Alzheimer's disease and in the care of those who care for them, as well as a final session, also online, with the aim of exchanging impressions with other students, resolving doubts and working on practical issues. In addition, there will be constructive feedback on the final practical exercise that each student will have previously submitted.
