Doctor of Medicine, he is a specialist in Clinical Pharmacology, professor at the Pompeu Fabra University of Barcelona and director of the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB). His scientific activity has focused for more than 35 years on the field of neuroscience. He has developed his academic activity between the Autonomous University of Barcelona and the Pompeu Fabra University, universities in which he has held different positions (delegate of the rector, dean and director of department).
From 1985 to 2005 he was director of the Municipal Institute of Medical Research. He has participated in the creation of new centres and has promoted research infrastructures such as the PRBB, which he has directed since 2005.
He was the first director of the Pasqual Maragall Foundation, from its creation in 2008 until 2020.
