In our scientific and social commitment to Alzheimer's research, we are awarding the third research grant Pasqual Maragall Researchers Programme (PMRP) to Dr. Pablo Martinez-Lage, researcher at the CITA Foundation-Alzheimer FundazioaThis programme promotes clinical or translational research projects focused on Alzheimer's or other age-related neurodegenerative diseases. The first edition was endowed with a total of 1.5 million euros.
The award-winning project aims to identify epigenetic changes, that is, related to the mechanisms that regulate the genetic expression, which could help define risk profiles for this disease. In addition, it raises the possibility of acting on these mechanisms through a non-pharmacological intervention, risk factor control and promotion of healthy lifestyle habits. This project was presented during a new informative talk on Alzheimer's prevention, organized by the Pasqual Maragall Foundation and entitled "When you take care of yourself, Alzheimer's takes a step back”.
The meeting, held at the San Sebastian Aquarium Auditorium, has been driven by the Dr. Chema González de Echávarri, neurologist at the Pasqual Maragall Foundation and head of the Dementia Unit at the Joan XXIII Hospital in Tarragona. The session, which was attended by more than 70 people, offered Tips on healthy lifestyle habits that can be adopted to prevent the disease.
