The Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB) hosts the book presentation event Neurodegeneration and Alzheimer's, by Dr. Arcadi Navarro, director of the Pasqual Maragall Foundation, and the Dr Nina Gramunt, a neuropsychologist and expert in training and dissemination from the same entity.
The work, which belongs to Health Tech, the first Spanish-language collection specializing in technological innovation in health, medicine and healthcare, delves into the scientific advances that are revolutionizing our understanding of neurodegenerative diseases with a major focus on Alzheimer's. They also analyze how the application of new technologies and the big data is transforming research.
The event was opened by the director of the PRBB, Dr. Jordi Cami, and had a round table in which participated the Authors of the book and the journalist specialized in science and health, Cristina Saez, who pointed out that “there is a paradigm shift regarding Alzheimer's; the focus is no longer on finding a solution to cure it but rather solutions to prevent it.”
The Dr. Gramunt He stated that “prevention is the key, we know that one in three cases of Alzheimer's can be prevented by adopting a healthy lifestyle.” For his part, Dr. Navarro He stressed that “thanks to the science we do in entities such as the Pasqual Maragall Foundation, we are at a crucial moment in the management of Alzheimer's with the arrival of new drugs and the development of biomarkers that will allow early detection and treatment, which gives hope to those affected and their families.”
The final touch was put by Manel Balcells, Minister of Health of the Generalitat de Catalunya, stressing that Alzheimer's is "a reality that concerns us and that occupies us" and that a global vision and integrated actions at a social and health level are necessary to address the needs of those affected and their caregivers.
