Female talent stands out in research into dementia and Alzheimer's

Spain is the second country with the highest scientific output by female authors, and the cities of Barcelona and Madrid also stand out worldwide in terms of the presence of female researchers.

The percentage of female authors in search of Alzheimer's and dementia is 32% and is higher than in other diseases such as cancer, coronary disease and stroke, as can be seen from the report. “Spain on the world map of scientific production in dementia and Alzheimer's”, promoted by the Pasqual Maragall Foundation, with funding from the Ministry of Social Rights and Agenda 2030, which analyses these data specifically for the first time.

This study also highlights that Spain stands out worldwide for the comparative percentage of female researchers, which stands at 47% in dementia and 46% in Alzheimer's, occupying the 2nd position among the countries with the highest production in these areas. The report also shows that the cities of Barcelona and Madrid occupy the top positions in the presence of female researchers in the areas analysed. Specifically in Alzheimer's, Barcelona leads the ranking and Madrid occupies the 3rd position, while in dementia they are in the 2nd and 4th position, respectively. In both areas of research, Barcelona leads the ranking in percentage of publications led by women and Madrid is in the 3rd position.
