The Brain Film Fest 2024, which will celebrate its seventh edition from March 13 to 17 at the Center of Contemporary Culture of Barcelona (CCCB), will program the documentary in its competitive section As long as you are you, the here and now of Carme Elias, by Claudia Pinto, recently awarded the Gaudí Prize. It will be A special session to benefit Alzheimer's research, which will feature the presence of the director and protagonist in a discussion following the screening.
Carme Elias received the Brain Film Fest Special Award in 2022 in recognition of a prolific career in film, television and on stage, awarded the Goya for Camino in 2009 and the Gaudí de Honor-Miquel Porter in 2021. With courage, generosity and the desire to dignify and normalize Alzheimer's, in 2022 Elias announced that she was suffering from the disease, within the framework of the festival. The Catalan actress now shares on screen the process, which Elias describes it as his “last conscious journey”. Thanks to the complicity with the director Claudia Pinto, they build together a first-person testimony, brave and empathetic, on the impact of memory loss.
Through audiovisual creation and scientific dissemination, the Brain Film Fest, promoted by the Pasqual Maragall Foundation, wants to show the public, in a close-up way, the multifaceted reality of the brain, from their abilities to their illnesses and conditions. It is the only festival in Europe of these characteristics and has been celebrated annually since 2018 within the framework of World Brain Week, a global campaign to increase awareness about the progress and benefits of research.
