Our research in the social field

We promote social research in the field of Alzheimer's with the aim of studying the impact of the disease on society, as well as the variables involved in its diagnosis, treatment and social response.

To address the challenge of longevity and the increase in people diagnosed with dementia, it is required, scientific evidence is needed on how to intervene and support these people and those who care for them, as well as working with health and social professionals to identify what tools they need and how to improve the care system for integrated care.

These are the social research actions developed to date by the Pasqual Maragall Foundation.

EMOCUIDA Study

A pilot study carried out between 2012 and 2013 confirmed the relevance of the structure and content proposed for group therapeutic intervention.

CUIDEM Study

Scientific validation of the in-person therapeutic group programme, which was carried out between 2014 and 2015. A total of 221 caregivers of family members with Alzheimer's disease participated. The results supported the effectiveness of the psychotherapeutic intervention, with a significant improvement observed after the intervention in relation to the perception of overload, as well as significant improvements after the follow-up sessions in relation to mood, resilience, perceived social support, quality of life and mental health.

CUIDAR-T Study

Scientific validation of the effectiveness of the online program Learn to Care and Take Care of Yourself. This study is currently in the intervention phase in collaboration with hospitals in the city of Barcelona. The study is expected to be completed in 2025 and the results will be disseminated later.

CO-CARE Project

The European project Co-Created ICT Solutions for Alzheimer's Informal Caregiving (Co-Care), coordinated by the University of Vic - Central University of Catalonia (UVic-UCC), aimed to design and implement new technological products and services that would facilitate the daily life of family caregivers of people with Alzheimer's, helping to improve their quality of life. It ended in December 2022.

NEXT-GEN Project

Project to create a comprehensive digital platform in the field of Alzheimer's disease in Catalonia, funded by EU Next Generation funds through the call for proposals from the Department of Social Rights of the Generalitat of Catalonia. It has been in development since 2022 and is expected to be completed in 2025.
