At the Giner de los Rios Foundation on 27 February, we will award one of the Pasqual Maragall Researchers Programme (PMRP) research grants to Dr. Alberto Rábano, director of the Tissue Bank of the Neurological Diseases Research Centre (CIEN), whose project focuses on advancing the understanding of the genetic bases of various brain pathologies.
Dr Rábano will work to create the largest neuropathological database on the Iberian Peninsula, combining detailed genomic data with an updated neuropathological classification. This research, conducted in collaboration with Dr Victoria Fernandez, the Head of the Genomics Programme at the Ace Alzheimer Centre Barcelona, seeks to improve early diagnosis and risk assessment tools.
The event will also feature a new information session on Alzheimer’s prevention, "When you take care of yourself, Alzheimer's takes a step back”, led by Dr Nina Gramunt, a neuropsychologist and education and outreach specialist at the Foundation. During the session, she will discuss Alzheimer’s prevention strategies and present the latest advances in Alzheimer’s research, both in early detection and treatment. She will answer questions from the audience at the end of the session and clear up any doubts.
