The Foundation
We are working to defeat this disease and achieve a future in which aging is associated with positive experiences.
Around 150 people took part in the Alzheimer’s Prevention Day in Sabadell “When you take care of yourself, Alzheimer’s takes a step back”, an initiative that is part of our social awareness work.
The event, which took place at the Chamber of Commerce, featured a presentation by Dr Nina Gramunt Fombuena, a neuropsychologist and education and outreach specialist at the Foundation. During her presentation, she addressed the multifactorial origin of Alzheimer’s and explained the difference between modifiable risk factors – such as a sedentary lifestyle, unhealthy diet, smoking or alcohol consumption –and non-modifiable ones, such as genetics and age.
In closing, Dr. Gramunt highlighted various strategies to strengthen brain health and reduce the risk of developing the disease, and answered questions from the public. Thanks to advances in research, we now know that even as one in three cases of Alzheimer’s could be prevented by lifestyle changes – measures that also help to reduce the risk of stroke.
