What are cookies?

A cookie is a small text file that is stored in your browser when you visit some web pages. Its function is to retrieve information about the visitors of a website. The purpose of the cookie is to adapt the content of the website to your profile and needs. Without cookies, the services offered by any website would be significantly reduced.

Types of cookies

1. According to the entity that manages them

Depending on the entity that manages the computer or domain from which the cookies are sent and processes the data obtained, we can distinguish:

  • Own cookies: These are managed by the entity itself (FPM) and sent to the user's terminal equipment to provide the requested service.
  • Third party cookies: These are managed by other entities and sent to the user's terminal equipment to process the data obtained.

2. According to its purpose

The data obtained through cookies may be processed for some of the following purposes:

  • Necessary technical cookies: These are those that allow the user to navigate through a website, platform or application and use the different options or services that exist therein. These include those that the editor uses to allow the management and operation of the website and enable its functions and services.
    • Some examples are: data communication, session identification, access to restricted areas, remembering the elements that make up an order, carrying out the purchase process of an order, managing payment, making the registration request, using security elements during navigation, storing content for the dissemination of videos or sound, controlling fraud linked to the security of the service, enabling dynamic content or sharing content through social networks.
    • Technical cookies will be exempt from compliance with the obligations established in article 22.2 of the LSSI when they allow the provision of the service requested by the user, as is the case with the cookies listed in the previous paragraphs and, therefore, will be necessary. However, if these cookies are also used for purposes not listed in the previous paragraph, they will be subject to these obligations.
  • Preference or personalization cookies: These are cookies that allow information to be remembered so that the user accesses the service with certain characteristics that may differentiate their experience from that of other users (the language, the number of results to display when the user performs a search, the appearance or content of the service depending on the type of browser through which the user accesses the service or the region from which the user accesses the service, etc.).
    • If the user chooses these characteristics, the cookies will be exempt from the obligations of article 22.2 of the LSSI because they are considered a service expressly requested by the user, provided that the cookies obey exclusively the selected purpose.
  • Statistical, analysis or measurement cookies: These are those that allow the person responsible for them to monitor and analyse the behaviour of users of the websites to which they are linked, including the quantification of the impacts of the advertisements.
    • The information collected through this type of cookies is used to measure the activity of the websites, application or platform, in order to introduce improvements based on the analysis of the data on the use made by users of the service.
    • Regarding the processing of data collected through analysis cookies, the GT29 (independent European working group that has dealt with issues related to the protection of privacy and personal data) stated that, although they are not exempt from the obligation to obtain informed consent for their use, it is unlikely that they represent a risk to the privacy of users provided that they are first-party cookies, that they process aggregated data for strictly statistical purposes, that information is provided on their uses and that the possibility for users to express their refusal to use them is included.
  • Behavioural advertising or marketing cookies: These are cookies that store information on user behavior obtained through continuous observation of their browsing habits, which allows the development of a specific profile to display advertising based on this.

3. According to the length of time they remain activated

Depending on the length of time they remain activated on the terminal equipment, we can distinguish:

  • Session cookies: These are designed to collect and store data while the user accesses a web page. They are usually used to store information about the service requested by the user on a single occasion, for example, a list of purchased products, and therefore disappear at the end of the session.
  • Persistent cookies: These are those in which the data remains stored in the terminal and can be accessed and processed for a period defined by the person responsible for the cookie, which can range from a few minutes to several years.

How to configure cookies?

You can accept or reject the use of cookies through the Configure / Change Consent buttons. In the panel you can consent and/or withdraw previous consent to the use of cookies.

Please note that revoking third-party cookies does not entail deleting existing ones. You must do this through your browser settings.
